The House

One thing I've always wanted to do is have an Advent Calendar of sorts that is filled with 25 activities we could do together as a family in December.  Originally, I planned to sew or build or somehow create my own calendar, but, when that didn't seem to be happening, I went the consumer route and bought this cute house.  Behind each door is a slip of paper with our special activity for the day.  I put all kinds of stuff in there – walks and drives to look at lights, baking, card-making, crafty stuff, and even a Christmas movie or two.  One of the things I love about this little system is that it forces me to follow through with the activities, no matter how much grading or shopping or laundry I have to do.  Family comes first.  I should probably get one of these puppies for every month of the year.

SNOW!

We woke up to snow this morning!  SNOW!  Apparently this is the first time since 1975 that it has snowed at low elevations around here.  Wild!

We got all excited and took pictures of the backyard.  Looking at the pictures now, the snow really doesn't seem all that impressive.  Maybe not even actually there.  It was there, though. In our yard!!!
In case you're not convinced, here's what my car looked like:
It strikes me that I may be a very bad Canadian to get so excited about a teensy weensy bit of snow that only lasted for half an hour.  Then again, maybe that makes me a good Canadian... ;)

December 1

Gomma must have been reading my mind when she picked up these Advent Calendars for Clara and Trevor.  I remember loving them when I was little, but somehow we've neglected to get them for the kids.  Man, were they ever excited that December 1st finally arrived today!  While it's undeniable that lots of the enthusiasm is owed to the chocolate factor, Clara and Trevi were definitely jazzed just to see what picture was hiding behind door number one.  December just got even sweeter.  Thanks, Gomma!
