I must have hundreds of photos of the kids in the bath. Not an exaggeration. That pales in comparison to the 9000+ pics on iphoto at the moment (and the computer is only 3 years old). Anyway, bath photos abound. I'm not sure at what age most people start bathing their kids separately, but we've probably passed that point. The fact that they barely fit in the tub together should give me a clue. Also, there's the fact that Trevor invariably starts splashing Clara, which she doesn't appreciate (to put it mildly). So, usually these days they bathe one at a time (Trevor first, because he likes his water hot), and sometimes Clara takes showers. Some nights, though, when they are in a peaceful mood, and I really, really need them to be simultaneously occupied, I throw them in there together. They come up with the coolest, most imaginitive games in the tub. Tonight was no exception. It actually started as a Trevor-only bath, but then Clara was so intrigued by what he was doing that she wanted to join in.
The sponges lined up on the edge of the tub are the milkshake flavors. When someone orders a strawberry, vanilla, or orange milkshake, you put the sponge in the water, and let it soak up a bunch. You then wring out the sponge into the little blue cup, which has holes in the bottom, so the water drips down into the teapot. Then, you pour the milkshake into an upside-down duplo block, and voila! Milkshake time!
Many nights when Trevor is in the bath, Clara goes in and reads to him. This is another fabulous way to keep both of them occupied, because they have a funny little routine where Clara will bring in a book and ask Trevi if he wants to hear it. He'll say, "No, how about something a bit longer?" So she'll fetch another book, and he'll say, "No, I'd rather not hear a story with dogs in it." And off she'll go again.... This game can go on for quite some time, and by the time I get in there to help Trevor wash his hair, he is a 40 pound prune, bathing in the Arctic Ocean.
I'm going to miss bath time when they get older. But at least I've got pictures.
